Photo Restoration & Repair
share your family photos
When it's time to share your family photos or you discover a relative's trove of old pictures, there are bound to be some cracks, stains or other damage spoiling the image. Some are relatively easy to fix while others may require hours of expert, painstaking retouching. The good news is we have years of experience renewing these kinds of pictures for families around the country.
what's involved
We prefer to estimate a repair based on seeing it, but the following examples may give you an idea of the costs involved. We also prefer to scan or digitally photograph originals with our high resolution equipment to maximize the quality of the final prints. If you only plan to make small prints, you may email or send a CD with a file suitable for the purpose. It should be scanned at 300 dpi at the actual size of the final print.
Printing Options
Sometimes the restored image should be printed on the same type of paper as the original. Many color prints from the 70's have now turned blue from age and exposure to sunlight, having lasted their full life expectancy of 25 years. That was the the state of printing then. New color papers from Fuji and Kodak will last over 75 years before fading begins, when displayed or stored properly. We make these prints with a state of the art laser imager that actually prints the digital file directly to the photo paper for lasting sharpness and faithfulness to the restored photograph.
A wonderful range of alternate papers exists for reproducing your original. These will further enhance the restoration by lending an artistic quality an heirloom print deserves. Choices include heavy and light textured watercolor papers, canvas, velvet finish and a very popular smooth matte. All are acid free and rated to last approximately 100 years before noticeable fading occurs when printed with our pigmented archival inks and displayed or stored properly.
